I'm writing this article for the Forum commmunity question by Paul Janson.
This is his question,
I am starting my AL studies. I'm a 2017 batch physical science student now I study 1 hr each subjects. In my study timeI mostly Practice questions from books. I think that doing questions is the only way I could improve my theory but should I study the notes from the books too? Or do I need to take short notes while I study. So give me tips to start my studies
These are some of the tips which helped me to get 3A's in my A Level. But I'm writing this article common for both Bio science and physical science students.
1. Past papers
As paul said, to understand the theories batter, ywe MUST have to do questions as much as possible. Specially you must be very through in the past paper question since 2017 A/L final exam paper will be exactly like the past papers. Most students don't practice past paper adequately. Because some of them think that doing past paper again and again make them by heart the question.
Well in my experience, when you do past paper again and again is one of the easiest shortcut to get 3A's. Because when you practice the questions again and again, you will be so good at the past paper. As I mentioned before, 2017 A/L final exam paper also will be very similar to the past paper.
One of the most important advantage of doing past paper again and again is, you will understand the art of creating questions. In other words, you will understand how the questions are made of! So that you will get the ability to create new types of question.
2. Model papers.
Since you are new to A/L, it is no problem in practicing model papers. Because you have adequate time.
But you have to understand something. By doing past paper very thoroughly with a good understanding in theories, you will be able to get more than 75 marks. In order to get extra 5 or 15 marks, there the model papers come.
Most of the students gets greedy and they just go for the model papers which give them some extra marks. But they don't practice the past papers adequately. So they loose most of their time and marks by being greedy.
So what you have to do is, first practice the past paper thoroughly until you get the satisfactions. Then do model paper as you wish.
3. Planning your studies
“Every minute you spend in planning saves 10 minutes in execution; this gives
you a 1,000 percent Return on Energy!” - Brian tracy
That is one of my favorite quote. And that is exactly true. You have to plan your studies and most importantly it should be a practically applicable plan.
Most of the student use to put their study plans and the most of them are not be able to practically followed. We are humans, not robots. We need entertainment, spiritual development , happiness and sometimes we get tired, bored. So sometimes we don't be able to work according to our tight plans.
So our plan should flexible and it should be able to following practically.
